Description
Carbonic anhydrase XII (CA12) is a type I membrane enzyme highly expressed in colon, kidney, prostate, intestine and activated lymphocytes and moderately expressed in pancreas, ovary, and testis. It is over-expressed in some renal cell cancers and in glaucoma. Two alternatively spliced forms exist, which either contain or lack an 11 amino acid segment just before the transmembrane domain. The amino acid sequence of human CA12 is 97%, 84%, 82%, 81%, and 67% identical to that of chimpanzee, canine, mouse, rat and chicken
